Biographical/Historical note
Mizrachi has also been known as the Religious Zionists of America and was "dedicated to building the Jewish state based on principles of Torah."
According to a note by Harry Cooper, the Hartford Chapter was founded circa 1939 by Rabbi I. Solomon Rosenberg, spiritual leader at Beth Hamedrash Hagodol (the Garden Street Synagogue). Rabbi Rosenberg made aliyah with his family in 1951, changing his name to Israel Shelomoh Ben Meir. He won a seat in the Knesset and served for many years.
Mizrachi's sister organization, Mizrachi Women is known as AMIT and conducts educational programs and raises funds for religious educational institutions in Israel. From its inception, Amit has placed particular emphasis on severely mistreated children, beginning with the young orphaned Holocaust survivors who arrived in Israel at the end of World War II.
AMIT still has a presence in Connecticut, but the local chapter is less active than it has been in the past.

Scope and Contents note
The Hartford Mizrachi Collection consists mostly of very incomplete bank records and a file of news clippings. The AMIT chapter is better represented, with minutes from the 1970s and extensive publicity files from the 1960s and 1970s.
